Dec. 13, 2013. The Boone Sunrise Rotary’s annual Fruit Sale, one of the High Country’s most popular and successful annual fundraisers, has enjoyed a record year. According to Susan Pettyjohn, chair of the Sunrise Rotary’s fundraising committee, those who haven’t placed an order may still be able to purchase fruit on the final day of the distribution.

Fruit orders will be shipped to Boone for distribution to customers from Dec. 12-15. Orders may be picked up at the Legends Club, located at 190 Hardin Street in Boone, on any of the following days:

  • Thursday, Dec. 12 from 12:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 13 from 2-6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 15, from 12:30-4 p.m.

Additional fruit may be available at the Legends Club on Sunday, Dec. 15 for anyone who did not place an advance order.

Funds raised by the fruit sale will support important local projects such as college scholarships for Watauga High School and Caldwell Community College students, free dictionary distributions to students across Watauga County, support for Hospitality House and Alzheimer’s Disease research.

Proceeds from the sale also benefit several international projects, including efforts to eliminate polio worldwide, and the Shelter Box Program, which provides temporary shelter for victims of natural disasters around the world.

In addition, Rotary’s “Tanzanian Aqua Project” which is dedicated to improving the lives of the people of Tanzania by providing safe water collections systems, is supported by funds from the sale.
