Appalachian State Holds Commencement Dec. 14; Dr. Anne L. Matthews, VP of Rotary International, to Speak

Dec. 12, 2013. Yet another batch of Appalachian State University Students will be making the transition from students to graduates next weekend at the Fall Commencement ceremonies at The Holmes Convocation Center. On Dec. 14, commencement ceremonies will be held for those graduating in December. 

At 10 a.m. on Dec. 14, the commencement ceremonies for the Reich College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences will begin.

Following that ceremony, the ceremony for the College of Fine and Applied Arts, The Walker College of Business, The Hayes School of Music and the College of Health Sciences will be held at 2 p.m., also in the Holmes Convocation Center.

The speaker for this December’s commencement ceremonies will be Dr. Anne L. Matthews, vice president of Rotary International.

Dr. Anne L. Matthews, vice president of Rotary International, will be the guest speaker for December graduation at Appalachian State University.

a.m. in the Holmes Convocation Center on campus.  She will speak to graduates of the College of Fine and Applied Arts, Walker College of Business, Hayes School of Music and the College of Health Sciences at a 2 p.m. ceremony, also in the Holmes Center.
Matthews has a bachelor’s degree from Coker College, a master’s degree from Appalachian’s Walker College of Business and  a doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
Matthews is president of Matthews and Associates, an educational consulting firm in Columbia, S.C.  She has taught business courses at the high school, technical college and university levels. She is a former director for the South Carolina Department of Education.
A Rotarian since 1989, Matthews has served Rotary International as a Rotary Foundation trustee, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, Rotary International president’s representative, lead seminar trainer, Rotary International training leader and district governor.
In 2013, she was elected the first woman vice president of Rotary International.

Family and guests attending the commencement ceremonies should park in the designated parking lots and areas denoted by “event parking” signs and follow all directions from parking and traffic officials.

There is no charge for parking in the Rivers Street Parking Deck beside the Holmes Convocation Center provided you are parked there to attend the ceremony.
