WHAT’S GOING ON? Multi-county Resurfacing Project Starts on NC 105, Night Work to be Completed by June 28

By Mark S. Kenna

June 13, 2013.  Last week the resurfacing process of a multi-county project started on N.C. 105.

The resurfacing, which was contracted by Maymeade Inc., of Mountain City, Tenn., will take place in both Watauga and Caldwell counties.  The project costs $893,458.

In Watauga County, three specific sections of N.C. 105 from the bypass to U.S. 221 are being resurfaced, along with one section of U.S. 221 in Caldwell County.

N.C. Department of Transportation project completion date is June 28, 2013.

At this time, of the three sections of N.C. 105 that are scheduled to be resurfaced, two of them have been milled.  Once finished the milled sections will have new asphalt placed down.

“Last week we had five straight days of inability to work because of the rain,” project manager, Don Greer said.

As a way to complete on time, resurfacing work will be done through the weekend, Greer added.

The process should take about two weeks, Doug Eller, NCDOT resident engineer, said. With four to five days for milling and another four to five days dedicated to placing a new layer of asphalt, weather permitting.

The project is taking place over night, as not to disrupt traffic and milling began on June 4.
