April 24, 2013. Members of the Watauga High School Agents of Change Club stand with Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson, who has designated April 30 as Talk it Up, Lock it Up Day to discourage underage drinking.

Talk it Up, Lock it Up is a community strategy to change the physical environment that surrounds the child in his or her home. One of the most common sources of alcohol for teens is taking it from their home or someone else’s home.

The campaign aims to address this fact and help prevent the accessibility of alcohol to youth. The designation encourages parents to talk about the dangers of alcohol use with young people and then to secure and monitor alcohol in their homes.
