Jan. 21, 2013. Put on your long johns tonight because it’s going to get cold.
On Tuesday, folks in the High Country will wake up to the coldest temperatures of the winter season so far, according to Ray’s Weather.
The National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany that remains in effect from 10 p.m. on Monday through noon on Tuesday.
Gusty west to northwest winds combined with arctic air will produce “dangerous wind chills” tonight. NWS expects temperatures to range from 9 to 26 degrees through the night with a wind chill of 9 below zero in the morning.
Wind speeds will range from 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
NWS warns that the cold air and strong winds will result in front bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
“If you must venture outdoors, make sure to where a hat and gloves,” the advisory reads.
Snow flurries are possible.
On the bright side, Ray’s Weather predicts a sunny day after some a.m. clouds.
