Aug. 28, 2012. The High Country’s largest and loudest biker extravaganza returns, and it’s bigger and better than ever.

The roar of engines and the sounds of classic rock and roll bands will fill the air for Boone Bike Rally. Bikers far and wide will converge on High Country Fairgrounds, located at 748 Roby Greene Road in Boone, for the end-of-summer rally on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Bikers will feel right at home as riders from across the Southeast will have the opportunity to enjoy an array of activities and events throughout the weekend.

“This rally is the only one of its kind in the northwest region of North Carolina,” said Kenny Johnson, promoter and organizer with High Country Outdoor Entertainment Events. “Its a good weekend getaway from the heat of the lower elevations, and nowhere else will you find the quality of affordable entertainment and companionship geared toward the biker community.”

Boone Bike Rally will feature bike games, traditional rally contests and vendors. Nothing highlights a good rally like soul-stirring rock music. Lovers of classic rock-n-roll will not be disappointed, as the fairgrounds will be rocking throughout the two-day extravaganza with live music headlined by Blackberry Smoke along with classic tunes from the likes of D.B. Bryant Band, Dice, Problem Child, Throwdown Jones and The JJL Band.

“We’re going to have a wide variety of talented bands, playing anything from AC/DC to ZZ Top,” Johnson said.

Tickets for Boone Bike Rally cost $15 for Fridays festivities and $25 for Saturdays events. A weekend pass for both days is available for $30, a savings of $10 from purchasing both individual daily tickets. Tickets may be purchased in advance online by clicking to www.boonebikerally.com

High Country Fairgrounds is located east of Boone adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The parkway is a 469-mile stretch of scenic byways that extend along the Appalachian Mountains, and has some of the most picturesque views for riding anywhere in the United States. On a summer day, many bikers ride the Parkway. In fact, motorcycle riders make up as much as 75 percent of the vehicles traveling the route.

The rally offers a relief from the oppressive heat of the Piedmont and Foothills, as temperatures can vary anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees from the lowlands on a summer day. Camping is available onsite at a cost of $10 for tents and $40 for recreational vehicles with electric hookups (limited sites available so call ahead to reserve a spot). Coolers will be allowed on premises. This is a “BYOB” event. No colors, glass bottles or pets are allowed at the rally.

Gates open Friday at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. for the rally. Boone Bike Rally is a High Country Outdoor Entertainment Events, LLC. production.

All bikers and brands of cycles are welcome to attend. For more information, visit online by clicking to www.boonebikerally.com, “Like” Boone Bike Rally’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BooneBikeRally or call Kenny Johnson at 828-733-8060.
