Appalachian Rollergirls Stand Undefeated; ARG Beat Bootleggers 111-96 in the Biggest Challenge Yet

By Rebecca Gitlen

Aug. 6, 2012. The Holmes Convocation Center sold tickets to 1,035 raging fans to for the Appalachian Rollergirls’ (ARG) last home bout against the Carolina Rollergirls on Saturday.

“We really felt like the fans were tremendous at the game,” said Megan Carmody aka ‘Bone Thugs N Carmody,’ co-captain of ARG. “They were super, super into the game and they were cheering the whole time. It was a big crowd and it really made a difference.”

Fans couldn’t help it. They were witnessing the greatest competition of ARG’s 2012 season.

“It was definitely our biggest competition, I feel like,” said Carmody. “We were definitely challenged.”

ARG was very well equipped to deal with the way Carolina was going to play. They had studied Carolina’s tactics and were prepared for whatever the Raleigh-based team could throw at them, Carmody said. ARG came out strong in from the beginning and held their lead the entire game.

“We knew we had done our research and whatnot,” said Carmody. “We were prepared, for sure, and our communication was really good.”

The team has two weeks until their next bout in Nashville, Tenn. They’ll take what they did this past weekend and focus on exactly what to do to beat the Music City Brawl Starsvon Aug. 25 because they’re going to be even tougher than Carolina, Carmody said.

“I’m just going off the fact that their A team, their All Stars, are ranked much higher nationally than Carolina,” Carmody said. They went further in the playoffs last year than Carolina did.”
