June 8, 2012. BANNER ELK — Starting Monday, June 11, weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of N.C. 194 in Watauga County, just east of Banner Elk. The closure of the 1.5 mile section of road will allow crews to perform road work related to the construction of a retaining wall.

The closure will be in place for 120 days. The work is expected to be completed by early October 2012.
