Volunteer Trail Work Day on the Profile Trail

June 16, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Profile Trailhead (located on hwy 105 S.)

Have you ever hiked a trail and wondered how it got there or who maintains it? Well your days of wonder are over…join a park ranger and help to fix a section of trail on the profile trail in Grandfather Mountain State Park. No experience or tools are needed as the park will supply these things. What you will need are sturdy shoes (no flip flops or sandal style shoes are permitted), work gloves (leather preferred), comfortable work clothes, snacks and beverage (non alcoholic). Additional items you may want include bug spray, sunscreen, rain jacket, etc. Work can include any of the following: digging up roots and or soil, moving small or large rocks, erosion control, building rock wall, and other tasks similar in nature. This is a fun environment to work in and a great way to give back to the area you hike in. Please call the park office if you have any questions: 828-963-9522.

Right or Knot

June 17, 2012, 2 p.m. at the Profile Trailhead

It is said that no two people tie their shoes the same, but it’s not said they use a different kind of knot to do it. Join a ranger and learn some very easy knots that you can use when camping, hiking, tying a canoe/ kayak down or to make decorative mats that you can use at your house. You’ll get to practice tying the knots with the ranger and take home an instructional guide of the knots to help you replicate them later.
