Free Home Remodeling Expo and Seminars at ASU Convocation Center May 18-19 Features 70 Exhibitors

By Rebecca Gitlen

May 17, 2012. The 18th annual High Country Home Remodeling Exposition is showing at the Appalachian State University Holmes Convocation Center May 18-19. Hours are Friday 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is presented by the High Country Home Builders Association.

Admission is free. There will be free parking as well as a shuttle. The shuttle is available in the ASU parking lot located on Hill Street, off of Rivers Street.

The exposition is for anyone interested in building or remodeling their home, or for anyone interested in any kind of additions or updates to their home.

Last year, over 1,000 people attended the exposition. That does not include the 70-some exhibitors, showing off the latest and greatest in home remodeling.

Windows, doors, audio systems, landscaping, decks, paints, tile and much more will be featured in the exposition.

“This year we’ve got “Sounds of the Soul,”” said Susan Miller, executive officer for the High Country Home Builders Association. “It’s a huge 18-wheeler coming in with the latest products in audio and video technology. The 18-wheeler folds out, and it takes about 20 minutes to go through the whole thing. It’s really unique.”

The latest green building options will also be featured. To save on the electric bills, windows and doors are now built to resist a draft, Miller said.

Builders will show how to construct to be more “green” in free seminars.

Seminars of all home remodeling topics will be located at the entrance of the Exposition in room #003 and will seat about 25 guests.

Door prizes are given every hour and everybody can register.
