The Art Cellar Gallery Opens for the Season with “Welcome Back and Throwback” Exhibition Through June 24, Artist Reception Tomorrow

The Art Cellar Gallery is excited to begin the season and to present their first show, the “Welcome Back and Throwback” Exhibition that will be featured in the “cellar,” where it all began. The exhibition runs from June 1 – June 24 with an artist reception Saturday, June 3 from 4 to 6.

In celebration of 25 seasons the Art Cellar Gallery’s first exhibition will show three artist that have been an integral part of the gallery since the inception; Norma Murphy, Gregory Smith and Tom Van Nortwick. Three distinctly unique styles hanging together to celebrate their relationship and history in the gallery.

With his unique brushstrokes and tonal colors, Greg Smith’s paintings evoke emotive images of our disappearing mountain landscapes and structures.

Tom Van Nortwick skillfully depicts the rust and decay of automobile metals and peeling paint. His realistic style gives the viewer the impression they are looking at a photograph of landscapes and objects time forgot.

Norma Murphy contrasts both of these artists with her reflections of an idyllic life in the North Carolina mountains. A diverse body of work represents quaint landscapes, bold and modern still life collages and the tea scenes she is known for.

We invite everyone to join us at the “Welcome Back and Throwback” Exhibition, to celebrate these artists and The Art Cellar Gallery’s history.

The Gallery focuses on North Carolina artists while including select artists from across the Southeast, showing work from large scale canvases to smaller works on paper as well as including sculpture, glass and clay.
