13th Annual Pretty in Pink Fashion Show and Luncheon Takes Place on Friday, June 16

Linville, NC (June 18, 2017) –  The 13th annual Pretty in Pink Fashion Show & Luncheon will be held at Linville Ridge Country Club in Linville, NC, on Friday, June 16, 2017. The champagne reception will begin at 11:30 am followed by the fashion show and luncheon at noon. Belk of Boone will provide fashions for the models. The featured speaker will be Kristen Walls, a cancer survivor.
 
Proceeds from the event will be used to provide free, first-time mammograms to uninsured women in Avery County. Additional services and information are available to patients and their families through the Avery County Cancer Resource Center located in the Sloop Medical Office Plaza on the campus of Cannon Memorial Hospital.

Blue Ridge Parkway Evening Program for Saturday, June 10

7:00pm – The Bear Necessities

Want to learn about bears? The American Black Bear is a fascinating and awesome animal, which draws thousands of people to visit Western North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Parkway every year. Come to this ranger-led program to learn about bear biology, stories about how bears and humans coexist, and what to do in a bear encounter.

Approximately 45 minutes in length

Free and open to the public.

Activities may include storytelling, traditional games, and/or hands on simple crafts. An adult or older responsible attendee must stay with children in order for them to participate (best suited for ages 4 – 12)

10:00, 11:00, Upstairs Tours at Cone Manor

Ranger led tours of the second floor of the former home of Moses and Bertha Cone. Tour is approximately 45 minutes long and reservations are required. To reserve a tour: call 828-295-3782 or sign up at the NPS information desk at the Manor House. Reservations are accepted beginning at 10:00am Friday for the upcoming weekend only. No advance reservations, please.
