4th Annual Health Splash Health Fair Returns to Linville on Wed., June 7

Linville, NC (May 19, 2017) – Appalachian Regional Healthcare System has partnered with The Williams YMCA of Avery County to host its 4th annual Health Splash event on June 7, 2017, at the Sloop Medical Office Plaza on the campus of Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, North Carolina. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 
Free Health Screenings:
Health Splash will feature a variety of free screenings valued at $260, including a healthy lung screening, oximetry, stroke risk assessment, pocket EKG, heart rate, blood pressure, diabetes risk assessment, height, weight and BMI.
 
New to the event this year, Health Splash participants can receive a free cholesterol and blood glucose screening between 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. if they meet the following criteria.
  • Must be fasted; Do not eat after 8 pm the night before.
  • Screening is reserved for those with no history of high cholesterol or elevated lipids and not currently taking medications or under treatment for high cholesterol or elevated lipids.
Exercise:
All Health Splash attendees are invited to take advantage of The Williams YMCA of Avery County’s many amenities, including the swimming pool, open track, fitness classes and exercise equipment during the event.
 
Screening Scheduling:
Participants will have an opportunity to schedule a mammogram.
 
Lunch:
Perhaps the most popular incentive to attend Health Splash is the free healthy cookout – black bean burger, fresh fruit and baked chips. This meal is offered to all participants who participate in the health fair. The cookout will take place between 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. under the covered walkway leading into the Sloop Medical Office Plaza. Door prizes for participants will include two Fitbits and an assortment of other prizes.
