Northwestern Studios Presents Performances to Showcase Local Talented Dancers, May 26-28

Northwestern Studios proudly presents “Let’s Go!: A Dance Revue”, “The Fantastic Toyshop”: A Children’s Ballet, and an excerpt of “Paquita” The performances showcase our talented dancers over Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28th. All shows are at Ross Auditorium on the campus of Watauga High School.

“Let’s Go!: A Dance Revue” will feature Northwestern Studios’ dancers performing various styles of dance including tap, contemporary, and hip hop. The performance will also feature the award winning performance dance team – The Northwestern Starz.

Show times for “Let’s Go!: A Dance Revue” are Friday, May 26 at 6:30pm and Saturday, May 27 at 2:30pm.

The children’s ballet “The Fantastic Toyshop” was originally titled “La Boutique Fantasque”. This charming ballet was first performed in London in 1919. The ballet features a magical toyshop filled with dolls that come to life, much to the surprise of some mischievous Village Children. Featured performers are Stella Christenbury, Nickolas Cutillo, Riley Keller, Ann Mellon, Skylar Moss, McKinley Robbins, Drew Ward, Carly Watson, and Ruby Wilson as the sneaky Village Children and Hannah Zimmerman as the harried Shop Keeper. The life-size Dolls are Payton Franklin, Bailey Keller, Emma Knight, and Sarah Grace Shellman. The ballet students of Northwestern Studios round out the lively cast.

Also on the program is the Divertissement from the ballet “Paquita”. In it’s full-length form, “Paquita” premiered at the Paris Opera in 1846 and was produced a year later in Russia by the great choreographer Marius Petipa. The ballet has a Spanish theme with a gypsy element. A Divertissement is a suite of dances that often dominate the final acts of 19th century ballets and may be performed separately. Northwestern Studios’ production replicates the iconic Petipa choreography. Performing the lead ballerina role is Isabella Cutillo. Soloists are Savannah Troyer, and Carolyn Ward. Featured dancers are Rebecca Anderson, Lily Lipford, Adaira Patrick, and Virginia Roth. The ballet’s corps performers are Payton Franklin, Emma Knight, Isabella Knight, Garrison Lawrence, Bailey Keller, and Sarah Grace Shellman.

Show times for “The Fantastic Toyshop”, and “Paquita” are Saturday, May 27 at 6:30pm and Sunday, May 28 at 2:30pm.
