High Country CSA and Kindly Kitchen Host Dinner Benefiting High Country CSA’s Cost Share Program

High Country CSA, a multi-farm Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program based in Boone, will be hosting a seated dinner at Kindly Kitchen on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at 6:30PM. Speakers will include Holly Whitesides from Against the Grain Farm (Zionville, NC) and Shiloh Avery from Tumbling Shoals Farm (Millers Creek, NC). Attendees will learn about sustainable farming from women who have been in the field for decades, while enjoying a plant-based dinner made from local, sustainable and organic produce.

High Country CSA is a collaborative of four local farms. The mission of the High Country CSA is to produce socially and ecologically responsible food through collaboration between small farms in the High Country. CSA members subscribe to the harvest at the beginning of the season and receive CSA shares (boxes) weekly during the 22-week season (May-October). CSA shares come in two sizes and are available at multiple pickup locations throughout Watauga and Ashe Counties.

Proceeds from this dinner will benefit the High Country CSA’s Cost Share Program. This program – which is entirely funded by community fundraising and grants – allows low-resource community members who qualify to have access to the CSA’s fresh, high quality foods at deeply discounted prices. The High Country CSA has been committed to making its shares economically accessible since its inception, starting with getting certified to accept EBT/SNAP benefits in 2010.

The dinner will take place at Kindly Kitchen, which was opened in 2015 with the intention of making local and organic food available to the community. Kindly Kitchen is located at 659 W King St. (top floor) in downtown Boone. Following the farmers’ presentations, there will be a buffet-style dinner (with locally sourced food) and live music. Tickets are $20/person and must be purchased in advance. To buy tickets for the dinner, please visit www.eatkindlyboone.com.
