Opening for Kent Paulette at Studio 140 May 14

On Saturday, May 14th from 6 to 10 p.m., Studio 140 will host an opening for artist Kent Paulette.  Paulette will be painting live inside the gallery and will also be unveiling his newest painting, The Antler Dimension.

“Sometimes when I’m painting, I’ll get stuck in a loop where I can’t get a certain part right, and I just keep changing it over and over again,” Paulette says.  “In this painting, I found myself using one of my magical White Star brushstrokes to help me break out of that loop.  It had the intended effect, but it also had the side effect of creating a certain type of balance in the painting which makes me feel like I’m entering a different dimension when I look at it, hence the title The Antler Dimension.”

Studio 140 is located at 140 Azalea Circle in downtown Banner Elk. More info can be found atwww.facebook.com/Studio140 or by calling (828) 352-8853.

LMC Cycling Releases Dates for Gravity Camp

The Lees-McRae cycling program has released the dates for the mountain gravity camp, announced director and head coach of cycling Tim Hall.

The camp will run from June 9-12 and is intended for men and women from the ages of 14-24.

Click HERE to register.

The cost is $499 prior to June 5 at 9 p.m. ET or $549 from June 6-8. Parents may attend for $599.

The camp will focus on skills, knowledge, development and strength, and also identify future collegiate riders. The camp is open to riders who have at least one year of training and competition experience. Beginner riders are encouraged to gain more experience prior to attending a Lees-McRae camp due to the technical and difficult terrain in Banner Elk.

Riders must bring their own mountain bike, helmet, shoes and clothing. A suitable trail bike/dirt jumper and minimum six inch travel gravity oriented bike will be required for the camp. A good fitting full face helmet, knee pads, gloves and suitable footwear will be required as well. We recommend bringing extra tubes, a pump or CO2 cartridges. Bikes will be inspected to ensure rider safety, but riders will be expected to provide their own replacement parts in the event of mechanical issues. Please ensure your bicycle is in good working order before arriving on campus. Riders will have access to our mechanic shop with a full complement of tools as well as bike washing station. Riders will be provided all nutritional needs during training including Skratch Labs hydration products along with solid foods such as fruit, snacks and bars. We will not provide gels.

Assistant Coach PJ Noto and collegiate national champion Phil Kmetz will lead the camp. Noto and Kmetz have over 20 years of gravity racing experience combined, and have stood on the podium at countless regional, national, and international events. Each day will be split between presentations on topics related to training, goal setting, nutrition, race tactics, mental, teamwork and anti-doping in conjunction with training on the bike.

For more information or to register, contact Coach Hall (hallt@lmc.edu or 615.310.3745) or Coach Noto (notop@lmc.edu or 845.863.3445).
