High Country Post Offices Open Regular Hours Tax Day

April 14, 2014. The U.S. Postal Service is prepared to serve last minute tax filers on Tuesday, April 15. But, procrastinators will need to make it to their local offices by regular closing time because all offices in North Carolina will observe normal retail hours this year.

Tax filers still have many options for mailing their federal and state tax returns and USPS will get them where they’re going. Three mailing options are available at retail counters and online and each option makes the enclosed return eligible for the “timely mailing” rule.

Priority Mail Express: Your tax return can be delivered to many locations the next day guaranteed or your money back. Priority Mail Express includes online tracking and signature at delivery.

Priority Mail Service: Get your tax return delivered in 1, 2 or 3 expected business days based on origin and destination. Includes free USPS Tracking.

First Class Mail Service: First-Class Mail is a quick, reliable and economical way to mail your return.

Proof of Mailing Service: Proof of Mailing Services provide you with peace of mind. You can prove you mailed your tax return, verify that it was delivered or both.

Certificate of Mailing Service: You’ll get a receipt as evidence that you mailed your tax return

Certified Mail Service: A Certified Mail receipt proves you mailed your tax return and gives you online access to verify the date and time of delivery.

Return Reciept: Tis receipt verifies both mailing and delivery, returning a postcard to you signed by the person who received your package.

Customers are also reminded that a Forever stamp, no matter when it was purchased, is valid First-Class postage for a one-ounce letter, which is typically one to two sheets of regular paper. Items weighing more than one ounce should have a 20 cent stamp for each additional ounce. The IRS will not pay postage on short-paid items and items will be returned to sender marked postage due.
