Jan. 7, 2015. At the direction of the Boone Town Council, Mayor Ball has signed a deed for property on Howard’s Knob as a gift from Dr. Richard Stahl.

“I want to thank Mayor Andy Ball and especially attorney Sam Furgiuele for working so diligently to make this donation and gift a very special occasion,” Stahl said.

This donation of 0.88 acres is located just below the property at 448 Howard’s Knob Road, visible on the front face of the mountain. This donation marks the second parcel of property Stahl has donated to the Town of Boone, the other being 8.14 acres, accepted by the Town Council on Dec. 14, 2000.

Stahl continued, “I encourage other land owners on Howards Knob to do the right thing and donate their properties to the good people of Watauga County so we can all enjoy a much needed larger Howard’s Knob Park.”

The Town Council has expressed their appreciation to Dr. Stahl for his generosity in making this gift, and encourages others who may wish to donate a property to the Town to inquire with Town Manager John Ward at 828-268-6200.

Adjacent to this property is 70 acres that Monte Green of Florida put on the market in August. The property adjoins the county-owned Howard’s Knob Park.

Also earlier in the year, Stahl published a book that is available on Amazon titled, “A True Tragic History: How I Saved Howard’s Knob …” Click here for more information on the book.
