Betty Vance Draughon, D. Jan. 24, 2014

Betty Vance Draughon, 86, of Banner Elk, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center. 

A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Blake and Eva Wise Vance. Mrs. Draughon was a member of the Banner Elk Methodist Church, and served as the church florist for over 50 years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, needlework. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Draughon; sisters, Ona Buchanan, Aster Webb, Ora Lee Henderson; brothers, Luther, Duton, Stokes, Bill, and Eugene Vance. 

She leaves behind her daughters, Gail Draughon of Banner Elk, Peggy Harris, of Banner Elk; granddaughter, Holly Cattanach, and her husband, Bart, of Asheville; great grandson, Lewis Draughon Cattanach of Asheville; sister, Eva Jo Townsend of Crossnore; brothers, Buddy Vance of Jonesborough, TN, A.B. Vance of Crossnore. 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Banner Elk Methodist Church. The family will gather with friends on Sunday one hour prior to the services at the church. 

Private interment will follow in the Banner Elk Methodist Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Grandfather Home for Children, the Banner Elk Methodist Church, or to the Banner Elk Cemetery Fund.

Donald Wesley Kincaid, D. Jan. 23, 2014

Donald Wesley Kincaid, age 95, of Montezuma passed away on January 23, 2014 at Cannon Memorial Hospital. 

A native of Avery County, he was born February 18, 1918 a son of the late Robert Earl and Lexie Lee Sudderth Kincaid. 

He was a member of the United States Army and served during WWII and worked as a carpenter. 

Don was a member of Aaron Baptist Church and was a member of the Linville Lodge AF & AM.

Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his: wife, Alma Johnson Kincaid; sisters, Carmel Banner, Opal Clark, Mabel Johnson; brothers, Tate Kincaid, Ben Kincaid. 

Don has left to cherish his memory his sister, Mary Taylor of Brevard and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services for Donald Wesley Kincaid will be conducted on Saturday, January 25th at 3:00 p.m.in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Aldridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Montezuma Cemetery. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the services.
