Grace Daniels (Nov. 26, 1919 – Oct. 19, 2015)
Grace Daniels, 95, of Newland passed away on October 19, 2015 at Cranberry House.
A native of Carter County, TN she was born November 26, 1919 a daughter of the late C H and Bertha Boone Hughes.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church Newland and retired from the Avery County Bank.
Along with her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her: Husband, Bruce Daniels, and a brother, Dave Hughes.
Grace has left to cherish her memory her: daughter, Brucie Daniels of Newland; granddaughter, Meredith Hayes, and husband Johnny, of Newland; great granddaughter, Auri Hayes of Newland; sisters, Helen Hughes of Linville, Marion Floyd and husband Dave of Jackson, SC, Shirley Gelston of Denver, CO, Christine Billings of Rural Hall, NC; brothers, James F. Hughes and wife Marietta of Linville, Paul Hughes and wife Faye of Linville, Ralph “Ted” Hughes and wife Joan of Rock Hill, SC; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Grace Daniels will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 7pm from the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 6pm until the service hour Wednesday at the funeral home.

Martha Winebarger Lookabill (Nov. 14, 1923 - Oct. 18, 2015)
Martha Winebarger Lookabill, age 91, of Hopewell Church Road, Boone, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation in Boone.
Mrs. Lookabill was born November 14, 1923 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late William Winebarger and Maudie Proffitt Winebarger. She was a retired store clerk for Smithey’s Department Stores, and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Lookabill is survived by two sisters, Lola Bowles and husband Burl of Lexington, and Margaret Miller of Boone; sisters-in-law, Lucy Winebarger and Vernita Winebarger of Boone, and Esther Winebarger of Warsaw, Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews, including Karen Critcher, Ben Winebarger and Joe Winebarger, all of Boone.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Lookabill, her sisters Blanche Bryan and Verlia Moretz, and brothers Albert, Henry, Howard, Monroe, Arlie, George, Walter and infant Robert Winebarger.
Funeral services for Martha Winebarger Lookabill will be conducted Wednesday morning, October 21, at 11:00 o’clock at Bethany Lutheran Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Laura Weant. Burial will follow in the Old Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Weldon Jerry Critcher (April 15, 1947 - Oct. 17, 2015)
Mr. Weldon Jerry Critcher, 68, of 4406 Bamboo Road, Boone, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015.
Weldon was born April 15, 1947 in Watauga County, a son of the late Will and Christine Harrison Critcher. He was a retired homebuilder and custom cabinet maker, and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Weldon served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Weldon was a collector of antique Studebaker cars and was a member of the Boone Rural Fire Board.
Weldon is survived by his wife, Margaret Roten Critcher of the home; two sons, Shannon Critcher and wife Leigh Ann of Millers Creek, and Travis Critcher and wife Athalia of Boone; one daughter, Kristy Hodges and husband Josh of Boone; four granddaughters, Bethany Critcher, Caroline Hodges, Sydni Critcher, and Zoe Critcher; five grandsons, Braxton Critcher, Jonathan Hodges, Josiah Critcher, Harrison Hodges, and Linden Critcher; three sisters, JoAnn Alessandrini of Salisbury, Wanda Scott and husband Bob of Shalotte, and Laura Higgins and husband Bobby of Boone, and two brothers, Bruce Cook and wife Sharon, and Mack Critcher, all of Boone. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, J.W. Critcher, and one sister, Lavon C. Caudill.
Funeral services for Mr. Weldon Jerry Critcher will be conducted Wednesday morning, October 21, 2015, at 11:00 o’clock, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Pastor Greg Heisler. Military graveside rites and burial, provided by the United States Army, American Legion Post 130, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90, will follow in Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Marsha Jean Albright went to be with her parents in Heaven, October 16, 2015.
She is survived by her husband, David Lee Albright, Sr., two sisters, Barbara Wagner of Waterloo, IL, and Jane Richardson of Flint, Michigan, one step-daughter, Angela Addison and three grandchildren, Joseph, Jack, and Toby Addison.

Mrs. Betty L. Denney (March 6, 1933 – Oct. 14, 2015)
Betty L. Denney, age 82, of Mabel School Road, the Zionville community, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 14, 2015. She retired from TRW/IRC after 20 plus years of employment. Betty was a member of Zionville Baptist Church for the past 45 years.
She was preceded in death by a son, Allen Denney, and a daughter, Phyllis Denney.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Denney; a son, Kenney and wife Dena Denney of Cary; a daughter, Kaye Denney of Zionville; two sisters, Rachel Powers of Glade Spring, Va., and Jackie Taylor of Green Cove, Va. Seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Zionville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Thomas Arthur Ventrone (March 31, 1946 – Oct. 13, 2015)
Thomas “Tom” Arthur Ventrone, 69, of Boone, North Carolina, passed away, Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at his home.
Tom was born March 31, 1946 in Bay City, Michigan to Alphonse and Dorothy Mary Ventrone. He married Karen Cable on April 13, 1985, in Burbank California. Tom was employed as a national accounts receivable manager for forty years. He then worked for Bare Essential in Boone for eight years.
Tom was the Governor of the Boone Moose Lodge & held many positions throughout the organization for 25 years. He was also the Vice President of the State Association and Wenoca Moose Legion. Tom was a devout catholic and greeter at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church of the Hill Country of Boone. Tom’s faith and family were his highest priorities. He loved to cook and provided many delicious meals for those he loved. He also loved his dog Mousse.
Tom is survived by his wife of thirty years, Karen, his daughter, Jessica Ventrone Cheshier & husband Caleb. His brothers David Ventrone, Paul Ventrone and wife Clarice and his sister, Catherine Ventrone Maniscalco, husband Anthony, and many nieces and nephews. Tom was a loving husband, father, and brother to all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Dorothy Mary Ventrone.
Services for Tom will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church of the Hill Country in Boone, North Carolina. Viewing is at 10:00am and the funeral will follow at 11:00. Reception immediately following at the Boone Moose Lodge. Ms. Melissa Hagaman Padgett, age 47, of Highway 194 North, Boone, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 13, 2015 at her home.
Born July 17, 1968 in Avery County, she was the daughter of Kathy Neatherly Clawson and Terry Hagaman. Melissa had worked with VOCA, and dedicated her life to serving others. She attended the Heart Church in Boone.
She is survived by one son, Matthew Presnell of Boone, her mother, Kathy Neatherly Clawson of Boone, her father, Terry Hagaman and wife Sherry of Mooresboro, NC, one brother, Mark Hagaman and his children, Jessie and Waylon Hagaman all of Zionville, her boyfriend, Danny Harvey, Matthews grandmother, Della Presnell of Boone and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Margie Bingham Townsend, 80, of Redwood Lane, Boone, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 13, 2015, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Margie was born October 4, 1935 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Thomas McCoy Bingham and Kenova Morrell Bingham.
She was a retired manager of housekeeping for Hound Ears Club, and a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church. Margie is survived by one daughter, Donna Lyons and husband Craig of Boone; three sons, Will Townsend and wife JoAnn, Barry Townsend and wife Donna, and Tim Townsend and wife Anita, all of Boone; four sisters, Betty Wright of Atlanta, Georgia, Janet Moretz and husband Bill of Deep Gap, Bobbie Townsend and husband Ted, and Mary Jo Pritchard and husband Herb, all of Boone; two brothers, Mack Bingham and wife Judy of Yanceyville, and Danny Bingham and wife Peggy of Rocky Mount. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ray “Joe” Townsend; one daughter, Karen Welch; two sisters, Patsy Hodges and Peggy Amburn,and two brothers, Ellis Bingham and John J. Bingham.

Ruth was born June 20, 1943 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, daughter of the late Thomas and Georgia Lee Orr Keys. She was a retired school teacher and homemaker.
Ruth is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Edmisten and husband Bruce of Zionville; one granddaughter, Katie Edmisten of Zionville; one grandson, Paul Edmisten of Zionville, and her in-laws, Ted and Martha Edmisten of Vilas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Julius Yates, and one son, Paul Ethan Yates.

Edith Townsend (June 21, 1932 – Oct. 13, 2015)
Edith Townsend, 83, of Linville passed away on Tuesday October 13, 2015 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late William and Alice Townsend of Linville. She was preceded in death by siblings Lilly Mae Townsend Anthony, Willie Townsend (Dorothy), Hank Townsend (Carolyn), Claude Townsend (Nell), Elizabeth Jaynes (Lloyd), Margaret Vance (Dellmos) and Pauline Townsend; nephews William “Scooter” Townsend, and Albert Jaynes, and former spouse Henry Irvin Puckett.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Thomas Siirila of the home, sister and brother-in-law Freda and Bill Thompson of Julian, NC, several nieces and nephews, and by her daytime caregiver Glenda Gentry of Pineola, NC.
She was retired from Linville Resorts, where she worked as a housekeeper.
She enjoyed listening to music and sermons via radio and television. She had many, many friends and she showed care and compassion to everyone she knew. She liked to laugh and kept a good attitude and sense of humor throughout many years of physical struggles. She loved her daughter and son-in-law with all her heart. She loved her friends and caregivers from home health & Hospice, she loved Dr. Barker like a son, and she loved her trademark Cheetos.
She held fast to God for guidance, and strength through her daily life, particularly during her last years. She truly believed that everything works out for the best, and that no good or kind act was ever wasted.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday October 16, 2015 at Mountainside Lutheran Church in Linville with Pastor Dennis Quackenboss officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at the church. Interment will be at Tanglewood Cemetery in Linville following the service.

Dewey Clyde Wright, Sr. (Aug. 22, 1928 - Oct. 12, 2015)
Dewey Clyde Wright, Sr., age 87, whose well-drilling company is a household name throughout the High Country, passed quietly into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, at his home on Monday evening, October 12, 2015.
Wright was founder and President of Dewey Wright Well and Pump Company, which he began in 1964. For the past six decades, Dewey and his team drilled many thousands of wells for grateful homeowners across western North Carolina.
He was an honorable, busy, and highly respected businessman, who treated everyone fairly and conducted his life with integrity. Always incredibly busy, Dewey still made plenty of time for his family and friends. Everyone enjoyed his sense of humor.
Wherever Dewey went, he never met a stranger. The families that he provided clean water and quality service for often became his friends.
Dewey loved his family, his work, and his farm, where he stayed busy working with his cattle. Though highly successful, he never rested on his accomplishments, but kept a humble heart and continued to focus on serving others.
Dewey served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1950. While overseas, he was stationed in Southeast Asia.
Wright was born in Burke County in 1928. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marjorie Helen Wright; one son, Dewey Clyde “Duke” Wright, Jr. and wife Darlene; three daughters, Robin Wright Roark and husband Steve of Boone, Sherry Wright Wilson of Zionville, and Ken and Carolyn Isaacs of Blowing Rock; nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son John Richard Wright.
Funeral services for Mr. Dewey Clyde Wright, Sr. will be conducted Friday morning, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 o’clock at Alliance Bible Fellowship.
