Carolyn Johnson Loven, D. Aug. 25, 2012
Carolyn Johnson Loven, 69, of Pineola passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.

A native of Avery County, Carolyn was born on November 27, 1942 to Martha Loretta (“Etta”) Johnson and the late Guy Johnson of Newland, North Carolina. She was a graduate of the Newland High School Class of 1961.

Carolyn, a 36 year survivor of Multiple Sclerosis, will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She was fond of flowers, animals and antiques, while her favorite hobby was drawing. She cherished spending time with her family and friends.

Carolyn was employed at C.L. Loven Lumber Company in Pineola until her illness required an early retirement.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Carey Lynn Loven, Jr. of Pineola, mother, Etta Johnson of Pineola, sister, Connie Johnson Hartley of Boone, daughter, Carol Lynn Loven Holstsclaw and husband, Mike Holtsclaw of Pineola, one grandson, Carey Lynn Holtsclaw of Pineola.

The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Pineola Presbyterian Church with services and burial the morning of Wednesday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be: Joe Loven, Jimmy Loven , Bobby Loven, John Loven, Tommy Huskins, Todd Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Joe Palmyra, Dustin Potter.

Wayne Cornett, D. Aug. 22, 2012
Wayne Cornett, age 69, of Newland passed away on August 22, 2012 at Roan Highlands Nursing Home in Roan Mountain, TN.

A native of Avery County, he was born July 28, 1943 a son of the late Wilson J. and Julia Taylor Cornett.

He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, flower gardening, old country, bluegrass and gospel music, and playing Rook.

Along with his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his: sister, Dorothy Cornett, Clarice Cornett; brothers, Burman Cornett, Buddy Cornett, Burton Cornett.

An honest man who loved people and was very devoted to his family, Wayne has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Natalie Cornett of the home; daughter, Tammy Cornett of Johnson City, TN; son, David Cornett and wife Debra of Johnson City, TN; step-son, Michael Johnson and wife Kim of Crossnore; step-daughter, Michelle Clark and husband Mike of Newland; sister, Betty Brown and husband Basil of Newland; grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Scotty, Blake, Cade and Mikaela; nieces and nephews, Deb & Kim Taylor, Jerry & Denise Brown, Mike & Amy Brown, Libby & Mark Pondo, John & Alicia Hicks.

Funeral services for Wayne Cornett will be conducted on Sunday, August 26th at 4:00 p.m. at Crossnore Baptist Church with Lander Heafner officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.
