Lavaughn Osborne, Jr, better known as “Junior”, age 75, of Creston passed away Tuesday morning at his home.

Funeral services are incomplete at this time.

Mr. Osborne is survived by:
2 sons Mitchell Osborne of Creston
Randy Osborne of Creston
2 daughters Janet Nolan of Canada
Teresa Wood of Creston
1 brother Mickey Osborne of Florida
5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive.

James Foy Parsons

James Foy Parsons, D. Dec. 10, 2012
James Foy Parsons, Sr. age 67, of West Jefferson passed away Monday afternoon, December 10, 2012 at Park Ridge Hospital in Hendersonville.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Graybeal officiating. Burial will follow in Obids Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm on Thursday, December 13, 2012 two hours prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Parsons was born in Ashe County on August 31, 1945 to the late Henry Foy Parsons and Evazella Burgess Parsons. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from RJR Nabisco, where he worked as an Industrial Engineer. When he was able he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Noblett Parsons; a brother, Gary Harold Parsons.

Mr. Parsons is survived by two sons, Jason Parsons and wife, Amanda, of Mocksville, NC and James Parsons, of West Jefferson; two daughters, Jennifer Parsons, of Fleetwood and Joy Kee and husband, Brad, of Weaverville, NC; his mother, Evazella Burgess Parsons, of West Jefferson; a brother, Gwyn Parsons and wife, June, of Boone, NC; seven grandchildren, Solomon Bracero, Sydney Bracero, Sterling Bracero, Collier Kee, Miles Kee, Delaney Parsons and Landry Parsons; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Howard Franklin Lyalls

Howard Franklin Lyalls, D. Dec. 10, 2012
Mr. Howard Franklin Lyalls age 90, of West Jefferson, died on Monday, December 10, 2012 at the Margate Health & Rehab Center in Jefferson. Mr. Lyalls was born on July 28, 1922 in Ashe County, NC to Hilton and Amanda Wingler Lyalls. Mr. Lyalls was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Virginia Kathleen Lyalls and all his brothers and sisters. Mr. Lyalls was a faithful member of West Jefferson First Baptist Church. He loved to hunt and loved to trade things.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Lea and Rev. Ken Morris officiating. Burial will follow in West Jefferson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Badger Funeral Home.

Mr. Lyalls is survived by: one son, Eddie Lyalls and wife Rosalee of West Jefferson, one grandson, Shannon Lyalls and wife Stacey of West Jefferson, two great granddaughters, Alexis Lyalls and Katri Lyalls. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Lena Rose Watson

Lena Koontz Watson, D. Dec. 5, 2012
Mrs. Lena Rose Koontz Watson, age 91, passed away December 5, 2012 at Emeritus Assisted Living Center in Conway, South Carolina.

An Ashe County native, she was born July 3, 1921 to Joseph and Ella Koontz and lived almost all of her life in the West Jefferson community. She is a charter member of the Smethport United Methodist Church.

Lena’s professional career began during WWI as a postmistress for the U.S. Postal System. Later, she entered Cosmetology school. She was a business woman who worked along beside her husband, Claude Watson, in their Western Auto Store and Watson Realty. Later in life, she was the owner of The Fashion Nook in downtown, West Jefferson.

She will always be remembered for her compassionate nature. She was a caregiver to her mother, Ella Koontz, and to her sisters, Myrtle Johnson and Louise Goodman. She was a fan of NC State, Carolina athletics and NASCAR. Lena was very creative and loved crafts-basket weaving, painting, beaded Christmas trees and angel ornaments. She was an expert seamstress designing many beautiful garments for “her girls.”

She is survived by daughters, Jan Goodman and husband, Raymond; Carolyn Sloop and husband, Roger; Debbie Gulledge and husband, Mike. She held a special place in her heart for her grandsons, Tyler Goodman, Chad Sloops and wife, Crisitina, Kevin Goodman and wife, Julie, Bryan Gulledge and wife, Debbie; and great-grandchildren, Gavin Gulledge and Bailey Gullesge as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Lena is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Richard Watson. Her parents, Joseph and Ella Koontz and her brothers, Harry Koontz, Charles Koontz and Roland Koontz as well as her sisters, Myrtle Johnson and Louise Goodman.

Mrs. Watson received wonderful care from her doctors, Mercy Hospice, nurses and the Emeritus’ entire staff along with loving friendship from the residents especially, Miss Mary, Miss Bessie, Miss. Eva and Mr. Chestnut. All for whom the family wishes to express their deepest gratitude.

A celebration of Lena’s life will be held at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 2:00pm with Rev. Margaret Wannamacher officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
