WHAT’S GOING ON? With That Huge Parking Complex At The Standard Of Boone Site?

By Troy Brooks

The 224-foot tall crane that was towering over the Boone skyline on Blowing Rock Road has left the scene, leaving behind a huge concrete parking deck with 486 parking spaces. Construction has been going at a steady pace according to workers on site and they feel they are on schedule.

“Our next step is to get the rest of the building that wraps around the deck up,” said one of the construction workers.”We’re trying to get the pad port set up so we can get the framers in here and start framing things up.”

Although the construction workers haven’t had many problems on site, there were some intruders on the premise one night a few days ago.

“We did have some people tag the parking garage,” said one of the workers.”We found some graffiti up there and we called the police department and had a report written up.”

When asked if they’d been getting complaints about the parking deck and it’s visual impact on the area, the workers had this to say.

“Do you remember what was here before?” said one of the workers. “A Red Carpet Inn and a Scottish Inn. Did they look nice? No, so what do they got to complain about?”

Scheduled to open for next fall, the Standard of Boone will provide a resort style of life for campus students. The complex will feature 560 beds and a number of amenities including a swimming pool, courtyards for outdoor firepits and grilling, a clubhouse, Starbucks Café Bar, study lounge, gameroom, fitness facilities and a cardio studio.

The finished complex is estimated to cost nearly $42 million according to project plans submitted to the Boone Planning and Inspections Office.

The Standard of Boone has already begun leasing for fall of 2016. Spaces will be filling up fast so anybody interested should sign up for updates on the Standard of Boone contact page at or go ahead and apply online.
