Watauga Humane Society Launches Facial Recognition App for Animals Today

On Oct. 22, Watauga Humane Society in Boone, NC, will launch the groundbreaking new Finding Rover facial recognition app for animals.

appWith Finding Rover, you can snap a picture of your dog with your phone and register him or her instantly. You also can upload a picture of your lost dog and have people looking in minutes! Starting Oct. 22, every dog that enters Watauga Humane Society, either directly or through Animal Care and Control, will be registered on Finding Rover, so that users of Finding Rover can search the shelter right from their smartphone or computer in an effort to find a missing dog.

Every dog that leaves Watauga Humane Society through adoption or reunion with an owner can remain protected on Finding Rover when the pet parent completes registration with an email. If that pet ever gets lost, the pet’s record will already be in the system, making identifying the pet a snap!

Watauga Humane Society and partner organization Watauga County Animal Care and Control will be the first animal welfare organizations in NC to offer Finding Rover facial recognition technology as an additional tool to help lost and adoptable pets in our community return home or find a forever home.

Key benefits of using Finding Rover include:

  • Registration is simple through Facebook and email. All you need is a picture of your dog and a zip code.
  • Anyone with a mobile phone can take a photo of a lost dog which will be instantly posted to Finding Rover.
  • Finding Rover unites dog owners based on common interests and provides a forum for users to read up on the latest dog news, share content and interact.
  • Finding Rover is free to download and use!
  • And, good news cat lovers! A new cat app is expected to be released soon!
