July 24, 2012. A multiple car wreck involving a car hauler and one fatality, occurred on Beech Mountain Parkway this morning at the intersection of Tumbling Brook Drive.

According to the State Highway Patrol, a 1997 Chevrolet Dually truck driven by Freddie Foggie, Jr., of Boiling Springs, S.C. was coming down Beech Mountain Parkway and was towing two cars on a trailer. The cars came off the trailer and struck two other motorists along the road.

Glen Edward Cross, of Lithia, Fla., was killed when one of the unmanned cars struck his vehicle. The Highway Patrol said Cross owned a residence in Banner Elk which he stayed in during the summer months.

The other vehicle involved in the accident was an A-1 Termite and Pest Control truck driven by Michael Winkler of Granite Falls. Winkler was uninjured.

Foggie sustained minor injuries in the accident and was sent to the hospital where he was treated and released. He has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle as a result of the accident.
