The Forget-Me-Nots, Todd Wright and Bagpiper Fox Kinsman to Perform at the Jones House this Friday

July 10, 2012. Friday the 13th in Boone will be a festive evening of fantastic instrumentalists as the Town of Boone continues with the Summer Concerts at the Jones House. Friday’s concert will feature The Forget-Me-Nots, Todd Wright and Friends and a welcome to the high country from bagpiper Fox Kinsman.

Fox Kinman is a local piper that got his start attending the North American Academy of Piping and Drumming camp in Valle Crucis seven years ago. He will welcome the crowd to the Jones House on Friday with a short bagpipe performance.

The Forget-Me-Nots band has now been in existence for a decade, and the young women who play fiddle in the group have been playing together even longer. Willa Finck, Maura Shawn Scanlin and Ledah Finck were all trained through the Suzuki method and are each accomplished classical players. They also have a strong interest in old-time and celtic fiddle traditions, and have composed a lot of their own music. With original arrangements, tunes, medleys, and styles, the band always brings a fresh, lively and impressive performance to the porch of the Jones House.

Todd Wright, saxophonist and the high country’s own ambassador of jazz, will bring his musical friends to the porch for a swinging set to finish off the evening. Wright is the Director of Jazz Studies at Appalachian State University, and he first joined the music faculty in 1990. He has been a staple in the high country jazz scene for more than two decades.

Concerts at the Jones House take place in downtown Boone at 604 W. King St. every Friday from June through September. The free concert starts at 5 p.m., and patrons are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to sit in the lawn. The 2012 Concert series is sponsored by MPrints, Stickboy Bread/Melanie’s, Footsloggers, Mast General Store and the Downtown Boone Development Association.
