Oct. 31, 2014. Snow accumulation is now forecasted to be more than initially anticipated.

RaysWeather.com upped its snow forecast through Saturday night to two to five inches for most of the area and five to eight inches at higher elevations and along the western escarpment.

Previously, up to six inches were forecasted for the higher elevations and areas along the western upslope of the Appalachians.

The National Weather Service also upgraded its Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning this morning.

While the National Weather Service was initially calling for up to six inches in the higher elevations as well, it is now noting that accumulation could be higher at elevations above 3,500 feet. But looking at the map above, some places could see more than 10 inches.

While the snow forecast is a bit higher, wind gusts are still expected to be 50 mph on Saturday afternoon and evening.

In its warning, the NWS noted that a “Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”

Don’t forget a blanket and extra warm clothes, too.
