Shriners to Parade Down Main St., Blowing Rock June 2, Town Honors Charlotte-based Oasis Shrine

May 24, 2012. A colorful and traditional Shriners Parade along Main Street at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 will highlight the WNC Shriners Summer Ceremonial in Blowing Rock June 1 – 3. More than 1,000 members of the Charlotte-based WNC Oasis Shrine – including new inductees – will come together for a weekend of activities in Blowing Rock for the third time in the past four years.

In recognition of the Oasis Shriners’ contribution to the Town of Blowing Rock by virtue of its repeat visitation, and for more than a century of service including the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Mayor J. B. Lawrence and the Town Council have issued a proclamation that designates Saturday, June 2 as Oasis Shriner Day in Blowing Rock.

“We’re happy to have the Shriners back for the third time in four years, bringing their excitement and friendliness to Blowing Rock,” said Tracy Brown, Executive Director of the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority. “The parade celebrates the making of a Shriner, but it’s also great fun for everyone involved. We look forward to hosting the Oasis Shrine this year and hope to have them returning annually into the future.”

The Saturday parade will include the famous Shriners little cars, Oasis Clowns, Gator Patrol, Dune Cats and Scooter Patrol, along with the Oasis Band. Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to attend the world famous parade.

Many of those attending the Ceremonial will be staying in Blowing Rock for one or two nights, bringing their tourism dollars to the Town, according to Brown.
