July 25, 2012. Georgann Eubanks, author of a series of regional books that highlight North Carolina writers, will speak at Appalachian State University on Thursday, Aug. 2. Her presentation is at 3:30 p.m. in Room 421 in Belk Library and Information Commons. The public is invited to attend.

Eubank’s presentation, the fourth in Belk Library’s annual Summer Author Series, will be followed by a reception and book signing. Parking will be available in the deck next to the library. During construction on College Street, the deck can be accessed by taking Howard Street from Hwy. 321 to the deck entrance.

Eubanks’ series was commissioned by the N.C. Arts Council. The first two volumes, “Literary Trails of the North Carolina Mountains” and “Literary Trails of the North Carolina Piedmont,” are currently in print. The third, which covers eastern North Carolina, will be published soon.

Through a series of regional tours, Eubanks uses excerpts from a variety of writers that demonstrate their role as the documenters and interpreters of the state’s families, communities, history and culture.

Eubanks has published numerous short stories, poems, reviews and profiles in such periodicals as Oxford American, The Washington Monthly, Southern Review and Appalachian Heritage.

She was awarded the North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship in 1985 and was director of the Duke University Writers Workshop before launching the Table Rock Writers Workshop. She was a founder of the North Carolina Writers’ Workshop and is past chair of the North Carolina Humanities Council.
