Oct. 28, 2014. Those in Boone today felt record-breaking high temperatures for Oct. 28.

On Tuesday, RaysWeather.com reported a high of 77 degrees. The previous high for Oct. 28 in Boone was 74 degrees, recorded in 2010.

On Monday, RaysWeather.com reported a high of 78.3 degrees at 3:47 p.m. The previous high for Oct. 27 was 82 degrees, which was recorded in 1939.

Enjoy the warm weather and sunshine while it lasts because the High Country will experience a 40- to 50-degree swing between now and the weekend, which happens to be Family Weekend at Appalachian State University as the Mountaineers face off against Georgia State at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

RaysWeather.com forecasts a low of 30 on Friday, which is Halloween, and a low of 28 on Saturday.

“The balmy air sticks around again today…then ‘see ya’ next year. A front moves through Wednesday with scattered showers focused on the morning to midday hours. The front marks the beginning of a much cooler trend that bottoms out this Saturday with the reversal to cold and impressive one. Late Friday night into Saturday morning we’ll see snow showers, flurries, and a big wind,” according to RaysWeather.com’s forecast discussion.

As David Still, a meteorologist with Ray’s Weather Center, said on Tuesday, “We are dusting off the Snowman-O-Mometer for Friday night and Saturday morning.”

Still noted that it’s not unusual to get snow in late October.

He also added that seasonal temps should “bounce back pretty quick” early next week.
