Saturday’s crowd led to another successful year for the annual Valle Country Fair, through which Holy Cross Episcopal Church and many kindhearted volunteers have been supporting those in need for generations.

Raymond Lutz, fair chairperson for the next two years, said the turnout was as good if not better than last year’s, although the numbers are not yet official.

“I don’t have a count just yet, but we’re probably equal to or exceeding last year’s by a little bit,” said Lutz. “Around 13,000 people.”

Fundraising totals are not yet confirmed, either, but Lutz said he’s confident they will exceed the $40,000 that the fair contributed to local charities last year.

“We do know we made as much in food sales as we did last year, and our vendors slightly increased,” he said. “We should do as good as we did last year, maybe even a little bit better.”

All in all, it was a great day to be in Valle Crucis.

“It was a very successful day,” said Lutz. “God gave us great weather for people to be out and about, so we are very thankful.”

Local photographer Cindy McEnery, who was on hand to capture the day’s happenings, said she couldn’t agree more.

“It was such a lovely day and such a perfect event. I am always amazed by the talented vendors,” she said. “Holy Cross is to be commended for supporting the community in such a lovely manner.”
