Over 1,000 farms will participate across the country to celebrate National Alpaca Farm Day. This event gives community members a chance to explore their local alpaca farms and learn about the importance of alpaca goods.

“Educating and connecting the community to the animals and land is the most important part of Alpaca Farm Day,” says Leigh Rankin, owner of Apple Hill Farm. “Everybody loves the animals and mountain views that can be found on our farm.”

At the farm, guided tours act as conversations. It gives guests the opportunity to learn hands-on, ask plenty of questions and interact with the animals that call the farm home.

Rankin is also an active member in the Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce. Joining when she first arrived to the High Country, she says, “The Chamber is just the best! It is a great way to promote local businesses and events, without having to advertise. It also gives businesses a chance to connect with one another.”

Also, check out the Apple Hill Farm Store, where over 20 types of alpaca yarns, socks, hats, gloves, and other alpaca accessories are sold year round!

If you plan on participating in the tours, make sure to wear walking shoes. The farm has a hilly landscape and the pathways can be muddy, depending on the weather.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children (ages 4-10) and free for children three and younger. The guided tours will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 25 from noon to 4 p.m.

Tours will be offered on the top of the hour during event hours. The farm is located at 400 Apple Hill Road Banner Elk, NC 28604.
