N.C. Workforce Solutions Streamlines Local Operations

June 23, 2014. The N.C. Division of Workforce Solutions is realigning its services to better meet the needs of North Carolina job seekers and businesses following reductions in the Division’s federal and state funding.

The Division is analyzing the delivery of workforce services throughout North Carolina to find efficiencies and align administrative costs where necessary.  Steps to improve efficiency include cross-training staff members and implementing the job-search website, NCWorks Online, a one-stop platform to streamline the job search process.  These changes will provide increased customer services, more quickly connecting clients to the opportunities they need.

The Boone local workforce office is currently located at 207 Winklers Creek Road.  Effective June 30, 2014, the office will move to the Appalachian Enterprise Center, a newly renovated office provided by the High Country Workforce Development Board.  The new office will be located at the following address:

Appalachian Enterprise Center

130 Poplar Grove Connector

Boone, NC 28607

The local office will be open 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

Citizens will continue to have access to the same workforce services as other offices, including free Internet access and resume preparation, as well as career counseling and assistance using the job-search website NCWorks Online.

“Our workforce programs are essential to helping people train for and find employment, so it’s crucial that we develop ways to more efficiently serve our communities,” said Will Collins, Executive Director of NCWorks.  “These adjustments help us succeed in our mission: to strengthen North Carolina’s economy by connecting employers to talented job seekers.”

The Appalachian Enterprise Center also houses the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, the Watauga Economic Development Commission, and the Small Business and Technology Development Center and provides greater opportunities for the workforce office to work with local business leaders and organizations.

“We’re working more closely with area schools, colleges, universities, and employers than we have in the past,” said Adrian Tait, Director of the High Country Workforce Development Board.  “Our team will be able to connect more people with jobs than ever before and help more of our area businesses gain access to the right talent, resources, and business development expertise they need to compete in today’s economy.”
