May 2, 2012. On Monday, May 1, Makoto’s Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar in Boone unveiled their new electric vehicle charging station. It is the first of it’s kind in Boone.

Dr. Peck Garner, of Boone Dermatology, was the very first one to use the charging station — charging up his new Chevrolet Volt.

For Makoto’s customers with electric vehicles, they will be able to receive one hour of free charging. To the general public, charging is $1.50 per hour. To activate the charging station you must inquire inside with the Makoto’s staff.

Though this 240-volt EV charging station is the first of its kind in Boone, it will not be for long. Appalachian State University intends to install two 240-volt EV charging stations very soon.
