By Jesse Wood

Jan. 30, 2015. Samaritan’s Purse received a package today that contained a “white powdery substance” at its headquarters in Boone on Bamboo Road. Law enforcement and hazardous materials units are on the scene investigating the matter on Friday afternoon.

“A suspicious letter was received via the U.S. mail today at the Samaritan’s Purse headquarters in Boone, NC. It contained a white powdery substance and was immediately reported to the proper authorities who are investigating,” Samaritan’s Purse said in a brief statement.

A spokesperson for Samaritan’s Purse wouldn’t release any more information.

Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman said he was on the scene on Friday afternoon because Samaritan’s Purse requested assistance. Hagaman added that any other details of the incident would currently have to come through Samaritan’s Purse.

WBTV reported that one person, who is expected to be fine, was exposed to the undisclosed substance in the package.
