Elk Knob State Park Announces Volunteer Work Days

June 27, 2012. Mark your calendar for every Saturday in July, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and come to Volunteer Work Days at Elk Knob State Park. Meet at the Summit Trail parking lot. No experience is needed. The park will supply all necessary tools. You will need to wear comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes (no flip flops or sandal-style shoes are permitted), work gloves, and bring any snacks or drinks (non-alcoholic) you feel you will need throughout the workday.

Additional items you may want to bring include a hat, bug spray, sunscreen, etc. Work can include any of the following: digging up roots and or soil to create the trail tread, moving small or large rocks, erosion control, building rock wall, carrying gravel in buckets to a worksite and other similar tasks. This is a fun environment in which to work, and volunteering is for people of all ages. It’s also a great way to give back to the area you enjoy hiking.

Call the park office if you have any questions: 828-297-7261.
