Aug. 2, 2012. Avery County Humane Society is celebrating its public grand opening Saturday, August 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the New Vale Road facility, located behind Ingles Food Center in Newland. Tours of our animals, adoption and education center, will be available. Meet local and county officials, as well as our shelter staff and volunteers.

Hot dogs and lemonade will be provided, graciously donated by Ingles. Bring your family to this exciting event and be amazed at the wonderful animal care shelter in Avery County.

“This is an opportunity for Avery County residents to see how well their animals are being taken care of and that their time and money has been well spent,” said Leslie Carter, the new chariperson. “The new board members are enthusiastic and staff personnel are pleased with the positive attitude at the shelter. Since moving into the building, we can save lives and adopt so many more dogs, puppies, cats and kittens.”
