Ashe County Farmers’ Market to Hold Layered, Pound and Sheet Cake Contests on Saturday, Sept. 1

Aug. 27, 2012. The ACFM on the Backstreet West Jefferson will hold a “Cake Contest” on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012.

Official Rules – Cake Contest:

Three Categories – Layered Cake, Pound Cake or Sheet Cake

1. Eligibility:

The contest is open to all Ashe County residents.

2. Requirements:

All cakes and frostings must be made from scratch. No store bought cake mix or frosting will be accepted. Submit a copy of the recipe with your entry. Use disposable cake tins. The Market will not be responsible for the return of cake plates. No items that need refrigeration or heating will be accepted. The cake must be at room temperature for judging. Limit two cakes per entry.

3. How to Enter:

Bring your cake(s) to the Farmers’ Market on the Cake Contest Saturday, Sept. 1 between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Tables will be set up under the tent on the grassy area next to the market. Entry forms will be available at the market that day or at ashefarmersmarket.com.

4. Judging:

Judging will take place at 10:30 a.m. and will be conducted by local judges. Entries will be judged on the basis of taste and appearance.

5. Prizes:

One winner from each category will be selected from the entries and awarded a $10 Ashe County Farmers’ Market gift certificate to be redemed at the market before the end of the 2012 market season.
