Feb. 21, 2012. BOONE — The Appalachian Regional Healthcare System will hold three classes this month to educate local care providers  and members of the community in various aspects of first aid and healthcare. Two classes will be held March 20 and a third will take place on March 27.

On Tuesday, March 20 is the American Heart Association BLS for HCP Part II-Skills Check. This course is for Healthcare Providers seeking an initial or renewal Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Course completion card. Part one, online (visit onlineAHA.org), can be completed in approximately 1-2 hours. You must bring your “Part I completion certificate” to the skills check. Part two, the skills check, will take approximately one hour. The cost of the class is $15.

Also on March 20 is the American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and AED Course. This course is designed for community members who want to learn CPR for adults, children and infants; how to help a choking victim and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).  Upon completion of this course, participants will receive a certification card which is valid for two years. The cost of this class is $40.

On March 27 is the American Heart Association First Aid Course. This course will teach community members several aspects of first aid. The cost of this class is $30.

You must pre-register and prepay for all of these classes because the class sizes are limited. All classes will take place in the Watauga Medical Center Auditorium.
