App State Police Ups Reward To $1,500 in Stolen Ambulance, Football Game Case

By Jesse Wood

With no new leads in tracking down who stole a Watauga Medics ambulance from Kidd Brewer Stadium during a football game in October, the Appalachian State University Police Department and High Country Crime Stoppers have increased the reward for solving this crime from $1,000 to $1,500.

The crime occurred at about 9 p.m. on Oct. 22, the night of a Thursday-night home game versus Georgia Southern. After the ambulance was stolen, it was observed on N.C. 105, heading south near the N.C. 105 Bypass, and eventually found abandoned at The Cottages, a student-housing community near the intersection of Poplar Grove South and N.C. 105.

Investigators with the App State Police Department had the vehicle towed to the Boone Police Department for processing, and a K-9 unit initially tracked a scent of the suspect before losing it.

The reward is being increased to $1,500 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for this crime.
