Aug. 2, 2012. To support the family of slain 23-year-old Watauga County Sheriff’s Deputy William Mast, Jr., several scholarship fundraisers, auctions and other events are taking place. Mast’s widow is expecting a baby boy to be named William Mast Hunter in the coming weeks. Look below to see how you can help.

Silent Auction for Mast Family Aug. 8 at Blowing Rock Fire Department

In conjunction with Chetola Resort, Boone Area and Blowing Rock chambers of commerce present a silent auction on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The fundraiser is located at the Blowing Rock Fire Department on U.S. 321.

Organizers are asking local businesses to donate gift certificates offering goods and services. Winners will be notified. Donated gift certificates need to be delivered to the area chambers by Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 1:30 p.m.

Back to School Carnival and Mast Family Fundraiser Aug. 4

The Brushy Fork Baptist Church located at 3915 U.S. 421 in Vilas hosts the Back to School Carnival and Fundraiser for Mast Family. The event takes place Saturday, Aug. 4, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Activities include air walks, games, crafts, bake sale, face painting, sports, water activities, silent auction, ASU athletic speakers and more.

Some activities are free, while others require a ticket stub to participate. 10 tickets cost $1. Food and beverages will be sold as well. Bring cash. All ages are welcome, and all proceeds go to the William Hunger Mast Scholarship Fund to support the deputy’s unborn son.

Watauga Gun Club Memorial Fund for Mast Family

The Watauga Gun Club is in the preliminary stages of organizing a memorial fund for slain Deputy William Mast Jr. The fund is ready to accept donations and all proceeds go to family of Mast for current needs. Checks should be made out to:
