Dec. 17, 2014. The Watauga Humane Society is sponsoring a pet adoption fair at Pet Supplies Plus on Saturday, Dec. 20. The adoption fair will take place from 1-3 p.m., weather permitting, and will feature some of the organization’s most adoptable animals. The fair will feature a special price for adoptions in order to help find pets a home for the holidays, which will include spay or neuter, a microchip, rabies vaccination and more for just $25.

In addition, for those who are not looking for another fur-ever friend, those interested may bring their own pets to Pet Supplies Plus during the drive for a rabies vaccine for just $8, or get your pet microchipped for just $15.  Vaccinations and microchips will be administered by a local veterinarian from Animal Hospital of Boone, read a press release.

If you don’t find your new best friend at the adoption drive, don’t forget that the Watauga Humane Society will be extending its “Home for the Holidays” adoption special through Christmas Eve. Cats and dogs over six months old are available for adoption through the shelter for just $25.

Tis the season, so if you want to help out the Watauga Humane Society but are unable to adopt a furry friend, donations to the shelter are always welcomed, especially during the winter months.

According to Gilda Gordon of the Watauga Humane Society, the following items are needed most for this winter:

  • Rawhide chews
  • Kong toys
  • Dog and cat food (canned and kibble)
  • Pine cat litter
  • Small animal food (hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs)
  • Hamster bedding
  • Dog shampoo
  • Dog and cat toys
  • Dog collars and leashes
  • Small dog sweaters and coats
