David Lee Trivette, 62, Winters Street, Boone, passed away Sunday evening, July 10, 2016 at Watauga Medical Center. Born June 27, 1954 in Caldwell County, he was a son of Howard and Alma Icenhour Trivette. David was a long time member of Boone Church of God. He loved spending time with his grandsons. From Conner and Zackery, ‘Pawpaw, we will love you always’. He enjoyed the company of his best friend, David Presnell reminiscing about the ‘good old days’.

David is survived by his son, Joseph Lee Trivette and wife, Mindy, and grandsons, Conner and Zachary Trivette, all of Vilas; sisters, Hazel Blevins of Kenneth Square, PA, Shirley Coffey of Nashville, TN, and Margaret Baker of Lenoir; and his brother, Eugene Trivette and wife Kathy, of Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mildred Roop and Elene Louis; and brother, Billy Ray Trivette.

Memorial services for David Lee Trivette will be conducted Thursday evening, July 14, 2016 at 6 o’clock at the Perkinsville Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. T. J. Jackson and Rev. Seth Norris. The family will receive friends following services.

Robert B. Lowe (Sept. 15, 1943

Robert “Bob” Lowe, 72, of Mink Hill Road, Mountain City, Tenn., passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

Bob was born September 15, 1943, in Asheville, North Carolina, a son of Dorothy B. Lowe and the late Buford G. Lowe.

Bob and Libbie married in July 1964. Bob attended UNC-Chapel Hill, graduating in 1967 with a Doctorate in Pharmacy.

The couple moved to Lenoir, NC, where Bob worked at Dayvault’s Drug Store from 1967-1971, when they moved to Blowing Rock, NC. Here Bob worked at, and eventually, owned and operated the Village Pharmacy on Main Street and then Sunset Drive for 26 years. In 1997, the couple moved to Mountain City, TN, where Bob worked for Boone Drug, Inc., at Mountain City Pharmacy until his retirement in 2015.

Bob is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Libbie” Lowe of the home; one daughter, Robin E. Lowe of Vilas; one son, R. Jeffrey Lowe and wife Melissa of Louisville, Kentucky; three granddaughters, Morgan Kelli Lloyd of Raleigh, Finley Drayton Lowe, and Ainsley Michele Lowe, both of Louisville, Kentucky; one grandson, Robert Bennett Lloyd of Vilas; his mother, Dorothy B. Lowe of Boone; one brother, Ronald J. Lowe and wife Theresa of Hatteras, and one sister-in-law, Gwen N. Mahaffey and husband Wayne of Asheville. He is also survived by three nieces and one nephew.

A celebration of life service for Bob Lowe will be conducted Friday afternoon, July 15, 2016, at 4:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Greg TeSelle.

The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, from 2:00 until 4:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Kenny C. Presnell (Dec. 12, 1947 – July 9, 2016)

Mr. Kenny Clay Presnell, age 68, of Banner Elk, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 after an extended battle with cancer. He was a native of Watauga County, and the son of the late Henry Clay and Hazel Desiree Estep Presnell. Kenny was owner operator of Presnell Grading.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Linda Brooks Presnell. Four sons; James Clay Presnell and wife Christina of Archdale, N.C., Stephen Kenny Presnell and wife Sabrina of Archdale, N.C., Rodney Dale Presnell and wife Tracie of Banner Elk, and Brandon Scott Presnell and wife Stacey of Banner Elk. Three daughters; Brenda Wilson and husband Ricky of Bethel, Anita Perkins and husband Rick of Staley, and Angel McCarty and husband Troy Stokesdale. Three brothers, Bob Presnell of Vilas, Keith Presnell of Banner Elk, and Billy Presnell of Greensboro. Six sisters, Rilda Everhart of Climax, N.C., Betty Estep of Elk Park, Beulah Clawson of Elk Park, Patty Clawson, Sue Johnson and Louisa Clawson all of Roan Mountain, TN. Fifteen grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren also survive.

Graveside services for Mr. Presnell will be conducted Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Presnell Cemetery. Preacher Eric Proffit will officiate.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, July 12, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. in the Austin&Barnes Funeral Home.

John T. Hodge (Dec. 5, 1928 – July 8, 2016)

Mr. John T. Hodge, 87, of Hudson, a former residence of Watauga County, died Friday, July 8, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Hodge was retired from Singer Furniture, a member of Union Baptist Church and had served in the United States Navy.

Mr. Hodges is survived by one daughter, Theresa Hodge Keever Bentley and husband Jeff of Hudson, North Carolina, three grandsons, Brandon Keever and wife Donna, Joshua Keever and Dillon Keever and wife Gabrielle, one granddaughter, Elizabeth Keever and two great grandsons and two great granddaughters. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Thomas Hodge, one son, Thomas Hodge, his father and mother, John Dallas Hodge and Maggie Elizabeth Stout Hodge and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mr. John T. Hodge will be conducted Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 3:00 o’clock at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend David Woods and Reverend Ed Warren will officiate. The body will lie in state from 2:00 until 3:00 at the chapel.

Interment will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 130.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00, one hour prior to the service at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel.

Roger Lee Eldreth (Feb. 22, 1948 – July 8, 2016)

Roger Lee Eldreth, age 68, of Phillips Drive, Boone, passed away Friday morning, July 8, 2016 at his home. Born February 22, 1948 in Ashe County, he was a son of Bessie Eldreth and the late James Edward Eldreth. Roger devoted the last 38 years caring for his mother. He and his mother enjoyed searching yard sales for collectable antiques. Roger was an avid fisherman and rabbit hunter.

Mr. Eldreth is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bessie Killen Eldreth of Blowing Rock Extended Care; four sisters, Grace Holman of Todd, Betty Cable and husband, George Lowell of Boone, Virginia Bauguess and husband, Ray, of Traphill, and Pat Reece and husband, Bill, of Vilas; four brothers, Fred Eldreth and wife, Jacqueline, of Creston, Carl Eldreth and wife, Libby, and Bobby Eldreth and Wanda, all of Boone, and Denver Eldreth and wife, Kathy, of Sugar Grove. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lorene Greene; and brother, Clyde Eldreth.

Funeral services for Roger Lee Eldreth will be conducted Monday afternoon, July 11, 2016 at 2 oclock, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ray Greene and Rev. David Cooper. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1 until 2 oclock, one hour prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Graveside services will follow at the Howell Cemetery in Todd.

Ms. Frances Marie Porta, 73, of 515 Chesnut Knob Road, Boone died Thursday, July 7, 2016 at her home.

Ms. Porta was born September 26, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. The daughter of the late Vito S. Porta and Catherine Palazzalo.

She was a retired Cosmetologist and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

She is survived by two sons, Anthony Benvenuti and Dana Benvenuti both of Union, South Carolina, three daughters, Deborah Widener of Aiken, South Carolina, Gina Brown of Whitmire, South Carolina and Julie Laws of Union, South Carolina, one brother, Vito Porta of Florida, sixteen grandchildren, Travis Gibson, Tana Bobo, Christina Thomas, Monty Paschall, Jr, Amy Lasher, Sean Paschall, Jason Pruitt, Bradley Pruitt, Mary Benvenuti, Ricky Benevenuti, Scott Laws, Jr., Caleb Benvenuti, Calen Benvenuti, Cathline Benvenuti, Catherine Benvenuti and Lana Benvenuti and twenty three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ms. Frances Marie Porta will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Father Michael McCafforty will officiate. Internment will follow in Union Memorial Gardens with Reverend Josh Freeman officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 til 8 at SR Holcombe Funeral Home.

Mr. Arne H. Anderson (May 22, 1922 – July 2, 2016)

Mr. Arne Hugo Anderson, age 94, of Boone, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016. Born May 22, 1922 in Sweden, he was a son of the late Hugo Andersson and Nancy Svensson Andersson. Mr. Anderson was a retired printer.

He is survived by one son, Allan Anderson and wife Ann of Banner Elk.
