Constituents in the Fifth Congressional District voted Virginia Foxx into in the U.S. House of Representatives for a seventh-consecutive term. Foxx won decisively with about 58 percent of the vote, according to unofficial election results, where all but a few remaining precincts had yet to report around midnight on Tuesday.

Her challenger was Josh Brannon, who Foxx defeated handedly in 2014 as well.

Foxx released this statement after her victory was clear:

“I am grateful to the voters of northwest North Carolina for sending me to Congress and endorsing my positive campaign of fighting for economic growth, conservative values and strong national security.

Now that they have spoken, I promise to continue to work tirelessly on their behalf, to fight for commonsense solutions to the tough problems we face and to ensure future generations enjoy the same opportunities that we do.

Many voters have told me that this campaign season felt endless, which is why I am especially thankful for the dedication and hard work of my campaign’s volunteers and staff and our friends and family. These folks worked around the clock to keep voters informed about my message of conservative solutions to the problems facing America.  Thank you to all who gave so much of their time, energy and talents to make tonight’s victory possible.

There is no place like North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District.  There is no other place I would rather live and work, and no other place I would rather be fighting on behalf of in Congress.  I am excited to once again represent this great district, filled with such wonderful people.  They can count on me to continue to fight to protect and uphold our Constitution as I represent them in Congress.”
