Daytime Classes Canceled Monday, Jan. 9 at CCC&TI in Watauga

Due to weather conditions, day and evening classes on Monday, Jan. 9 for the Caldwell Campus in Hudson have been canceled.

Day classes for the Watauga Campus in Boone also have been canceled. A decision on evening classes will be made by 4 p.m.

Beyond Voting: A Community Roundtable at Watauga Library Thursday, Jan. 12

Join us to talk about how to use your voice to make sure that lawmakers help your community thrive in 2017!

The North Carolina Justice Center is hosting a local roundtable to hear from Ashe and Watauga County residents about how policies have played out in your community, and where you see the most pressing needs and opportunities. We’ll share some information about policies that boost local economies, and discuss opportunities to plug in during the upcoming legislative session.

Come share your perspective and ideas for how we can make the biggest difference for North Carolinians in 2017!

Winterfest Cork and Canvas at BRAHM Jan. 27-28

Drink wine and create art based on Vase With Twelve Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh in a relaxed atmosphere facilitated by a trained instructor. Each participant goes home with a finished work of art. All materials, including canvasses, paint, brushes, and aprons, are provided. Beverages and snacks will be included in admission. 

There will be two sessions of this event, one Friday and one Saturday. Choose the date that works for you, and bring a friend! Reservation and payment is required by January 21st. Limited seating available.

A full refund will be issued if participant cancels 72 hours prior to the event. For cancellations made less than 72 hours prior to the event, BRAHM will issue a refund IF the museum is able to fill the vacated spot. Participants must be over 21 years of age, with valid ID.

Lifelong Learners Movie: “Frida” on Jan. 9

High Country Lifelong Learners in association with the Watauga County
Public Library invite you to join us for a movie viewing of “Frida” on
January 9th from 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm.

Director Julie Taymor’s 2002 film, “Frida”, chronicles the life Frida Kahlo
shared with Diego Rivera, as the couple took the art world by storm. From
her complex relationship with her mentor and husband to her affair with
Leon Trotsky, to her provocative entanglements with women, Frida Kahlo
lived a bold and uncompromising life as a political, artistic, and sexual
revolutionary.

Stars: Salma Hayek, Alfred Molina, Geoffrey Rush

This film has an MPAA rating of R and an approximate run-time of 123
minutes.
