Quilt Guild to Meet Sept. 1

The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday.September 1st at 1:00 PM.  We meet in the conference room on the second floor of the Senior Center on Poplar Grove Connector in Boone.  Patsy Blanton will be presenting our program, demonstrating how to make different types of binding.  Join us and discover new ways to bind your quilt.  Call Dolores at 295-618 if you have any questions.

2016 Beech Mountain Holiday Market – Accepting Applications

Presented by Beech Mountain Parks and Recreation Department

Beech Mountain, NC, Aug 16, 2016 – On Saturday, November 26th Beech Mountain Parks and Recreation will host its 10th annual Holiday Market here at the Buckeye Recreation Center from 10am-5pm. This indoor market is a welcome alternative to busy shopping centers during the holiday season – featuring unique goods, handmade crafts, and fine arts. We are currently accepting vendor applications for this event. Spaces are only $30 for a 10×10′ area. Applications and payment must be received before Monday, Nov. 14 to participate in the Market.

The HCLF Boone Block Party is a street festival on Howard St. consisting of local vendors, live music, a beer garden and a fun-filled day for the community!
We are inviting our HCLF members to sponsor our event or sign up for a vendor booth at the event. The deadline to sponsor our event is THIS THURSDAY, AUGUST 18th. The deadline to sign up for a vendor booth is Thursday, September 1st.

Free Training Runs, Clinics for Stick Boy Mayview Madness 5K

ZAP Fitness Running Center is offering 3 weeks of free training runs / clinics in preparation for the Stick Boy Mayview Madness 5k – set to take placeSeptember 3rd. This year the clinics will also offer a training session for children who are planning on participating in the Blue Ridge Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine 1 Mile Kids Fun Run. The adult training runs are open to all ages and abilities and will range in distance from 2-7 miles.

Runners will meet each week at 5:45 p.m. at the dirt parking lot on rt. 221 adjacent to the entrance to Moses Cone Park.

August 17th – Proper Running Technique                     
August 24th – Using Speed to Your Benefit
August 31st – Race Strategy
Sept 3rd – Mayview Madness 5k (8:00 a.m.)

Join us on September 3rd at 8 am in beautiful Blowing Rock, NC for the 17th annual StickBoy Bread Co. Mayview Madness 5k. The race benefits the Blue Ridge Conservancy and will take place on Saturday September 3rd starting adjacent to the American Legion Hall in downtown Blowing Rock. The race will finish in the Bistro Roca parking lot where there will post race snacks, raffle giveaways, music, and awards.
