Boone Chamber Sponsors Candidates Forum Oct. 25, See Agenda, Final Confirmations

The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce will host a “Meet the Candidates” forum on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016 in the large courtroom of the Watauga County Courthouse on West King Street in Boone.

Our national [Senate and House], NC State [Governor, Senate and House] and local candidates for the Watauga County Commission and Board of Education have been invited. Below is the list of candidates that have confirmed attendance and participation:

US House of Representatives (District 5)

NC 24th Judicial District –

The projected schedule will be as follows:

  • 5:00 – Welcome & Introductions
  • 5:05 – Candidates for US Senate and House
  • 5:50 – Introductions of District Court Judge Candidates
  • 6:00 – Candidates for Watauga County School Board
  • 7:00 – Candidates for Watauga County Commissioner
  • 8:00 – Candidates for NC Senate, House, and Governor

Questions will be asked of all the candidates in a ‘round robin’ format; each having an opportunity to answer first, but all answering the same question.  The audience will be allowed to submit written questions during the forum.  All questions will be asked by the moderator.  Each response will have a 1-minute time limit and each candidate will have a 2-minute closing statement.

This forum is not intended to be a debate between candidates or between the audience and the candidates, but rather an opportunity for the citizenry to hear each candidate’s position on topics important to all.  In order to maintain decorum, political literature and signage will not be allowed in the room.
