April 2, 2012. BLOWING ROCK — Patrick Sukow, principal of Blowing Rock School, has been selected by his fellow principals as the Watauga County Schools Principal of the Year for 2012-13. His award was announced Thursday at a meeting of principals and central office personnel.

“It is an honor to be recognized by such an outstanding group of administrators,” said Sukow. “It is a pleasure to work with the wonderful and talented group of professionals we have at Blowing Rock School. I share this honor with all the faculty, staff, students and community members of Blowing Rock.”

Superintendent Dr. Richard Jones said Sukow’s honor was well deserved. “Patrick Sukow has proven himself an excellent leader at a school where high expectations and high achievement are the norm. We congratulate him on his recognition as Principal of the Year and we are grateful for his service to the students, parents, faculty, and staff of Blowing Rock School.”

Sukow will be formally recognized for his award at a future meeting of the Watauga Board of Education. He will also be presented with a check for $500 and a plaque commemorating his selection as Watauga County Schools Principal of the Year.

Sukow is in his eighth year as principal of Blowing Rock. He first came to the Watauga County Schools in December of 1999 to accept a position as assistant principal at the high school and later served as assistant principal at Parkway before becoming principal at Blowing Rock.

Sukow’s wife, Anne Sukow, is also an educator and currently teaches fifth grade at Bethel Elementary.

Blowing Rock School serves children and youth in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and has a current enrollment of 328 students. It is recognized by the state as an Honor School of Excellence, the highest possible rating under the NC school accountability system.
