June 12, 2014. Tony Jones, the new police chief of Blowing Rock, was sworn in at Tuesday night’s Blowing Rock Town Council meeting.

Jones, 46, was selected from a pool of 24 applicants. He relocated from Taylorsville, where he was police chief for the previous 17 years.

His first day on the job was May 27, according to a press release that announced his hiring in May.

“Tony Jones’ 17 years of proven experience as a Police Chief in a small community along with his 20 years of teaching law enforcement classes immediately set him apart from the candidate pool. His performance during the interview process and his approaches to problem solving and customer service leadership further distinguished him as the right person to join our team here in Blowing Rock,” said Town Manager Scott Fogleman.

Jones has been familiar with the area, particularly enjoying Price Lake in the past during family retreats.

“I have always loved visiting Blowing Rock. I am humbled and honored to be selected for this position and am very excited to join the Blowing Rock community and customer service focused organization,” Jones said.
