Jan. 11, 2012. A deaf man was transported to two different hospitals in the Piedmont after receiving multiple stab wounds on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Greensboro News & Record, Terrance Daniels, 45, of Burlington, was walking down a street with another person conversing in sign language when Robert Jarell Neal, 20, mistook Daniels for throwing up gang signs and stabbed the deaf man with a kitchen knife.

Neal was charged by the Burlington Police Department with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury and felonious assault on handicapped person, according to a media release from the Burlington Police Department.

He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Alamance County Detention Facility, whereupon his bond was set at $500,000.

Daniels was listed in stable condition at the time of his release.
